Gloria Arellano Montes, 73, of Hurley, NM passed away Monday, April 8, 2024 at Gila Regional Medical Center.
She was born May 30, 1950 in Silver City, NM to Arturo Arellano and Consuelo Madrid. Gloria was an athlete at a young age. In her school years, she played softball and volleyball and ran track. After graduating from Silver High School, she went on to earn her BAS from Western New Mexico University. She worked for the Cobre Schools as a special education teacher and later retired as a bilingual teacher. She also worked at Fort Bayard Medical Center and A. P. T. Gloria was married to Reyes Montes for forty-three years until his passing in 2015.
Gloria truly enjoyed life through the simple pleasures like spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved watching football and was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan. Gloria was a unique and wonderful person who will be greatly missed.
She is survived by one daughter, Amy Montes of Phoenix, AZ; one grandson, Guy Gutierrez Jr. (Dmaria) of San Lorenzo, NM; two granddaughters, Hayley Gutierrez (Bobby Ortega) of Hurley, NM and Alexis Gutierrez of San Lorenzo and six great-grandchildren, Anthony, Za’nyah, Divinity, Vincent, Guy III and Andres. She is also survived by sister-in-law and best friend, Reina Murrillo of Hurley; three brothers, Tony Gonzales of Prescott, AZ, Jimmy Gonzales and Martin Arellano, both of Tucson, AZ.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Reyes Montes; her parents, Arturo and Consuelo; one sister, Lupe Coca; brothers, David Arellano, Ruben Chavez and Gilbert Gonzales; aunts, Esther Miranda, Dora Gomez, Gumie Sallard, Lola Melendrez; uncles Mariano Arellano, Adolfo Arellano; cousin, Richard Miranda and niece, Diane Arellano.
Visitation will begin at five o'clock in the evening on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at Baca's Funeral Chapel in Silver City. A Recitation of the Holy Rosary will follow at six o'clock. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Gloria at nine-thirty in the morning on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at the Infant Jesus Shrine in Hurley. Concluding Services and Interment will follow at Fort Bayard National Cemetery. Father Casmir Anozie will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Guy Gutierrez Jr., Melvin Sedillo III, Robert Delgado, Chris Walton, Bobby Ortega and Jack Shaffer.
Honorary Pallbearers are her godchildren, Jeffrey Delgado, James Pankey and Shannon Silva; her cousins Mary Delgado, Nellie Valdez, Jean Candelaria, Gena and Dolores Gomez and Patsy Balinbin.
